    Scholarships are available provided applicant meets eligibility and verification requirements. You must submit an application and documentation at the time of registration. Scholarship applications can be obtained at any of the Community Centers or at Recreation Administration, and on the website. 

    Refund Policy        

    All requests for refunds must be directed to the Recreation & Youth Services Manager, Recreation Division, 1947 Center Street, First Floor, Berkeley, CA 94704. The original receipt must be submitted with a written request for a refund. The request must state the reason for the refund, and the date, time and location of the program. The Rec­reation and Youth Services Manager will render a decision to either: 1) refund the fee; 2) pro-rate the fee; 3) apply the fees to another session or program; or 4) deny the request.

    No refunds or credit will be granted without 7 days notice prior to start of class or date of reservation. The City will deduct 25% of the amount paid from the refund to cover administration expenses or will add a minimum $10.00 service charge.

    MLK Jr. Youth Services Center -

    MLK Jr. Youth Services Center / Y.A.P.

    The MLK Jr. Youth Services Center offers meaningful recreation experiences that include tutoring, violence prevention, and leadership development components for teens and young adults.  Through various programs, such as Afterschool/Summer Achievers, Justice in Action, From Boys to Men, and Young Divas, as well as various service projects and special events, teens are given the opportunity to improve their academics, gain valuable service learning experience, make new friends, go on field trips and enjoy exciting recreation activities.  

    This facility is also home to the City of Berkeley Boxing and Teen Programs, as well as the Berkeley Youth Commission (see below).    

     MLK Jr. Youth Services Center Features 

    The MLK Jr. Youth Services Center features a gymnasium and meeting rooms that can be reserved and rented by community members.  Rental fees vary by room, day of week, and residency status.  Please call 981-6671 for more information.  This site also has a computer lab, kitchen, as well as outdoor picnic and recreational space.

    Skate Park -

    Skate Park Programs

    The Berkeley Skate Park, located at Harrison Park, an 18,000 square foot park that contains a large oval bowl and, fun box and areas for beginners. This site will provide you with program, special event, and rental information. Use of the park is free. Helmets required. Pads are recommended. No bikes allowed. The Skate Park will be closed during clinics, events and rainy weather. All classes cancelled during rain.

    Movies in the Park

    What could be better than enjoying a summer night watching
    movies under the stars?  The City of Berkeley's Recreation
    Division is hosting a FREE outdoor movie series on Friday nights in
    three of its beautiful and popular parks, featuring some well loved
    family films.

    A large portable 20' x 12' inflatable movie screen and premium
    audio visual movie equipment for outdoor cinemas will make Movies
    in the Park a spectacular event. 

    The featured films are:

    July 10th, The Lego Movie at Cedar Rose Park,1300
    Rose St., 8:45pm - 10:45 pm

    July 31st, Despicable Me at Willard Park, 2730
    Hillegass Ave., 8:30pm - 10:30 pm

    August 28th, Big Hero 6 at Live Oak Park, 1301 Shattuck
    Ave., 8:00pm - 10:00 pm

    Enjoy all the fun of a drive in movie at your local park. 
    Please arrive at least 30 minutes before the movie begins. 
    Bring blankets, sleeping bags and/or low-back beach chairs with a
    maximum height of 9 inches off the
    ground, so the view of other patrons is not blocked.  A
    flashlight or headlamp makes walking out at the end of the night
    easier.  Limited street parking is available.  This is an
