New Fees Effective August 2, 2010 - The City Council adopted Resolution No. 64,918-N.S. increasing development-related fees for the Planning and Development Department, effective August 2, 2010.
Effective July 1, 2010 - The PEX Regulations Contained in the California Plumbing Code (California Code of Regulations, Title 24, Part 5, section 604.11 and Table 6-4) are Repealed See PEX Regulations (pdf)
Effective January 1, 2010 - The New Title 24 2008 Energy Code went into Effect January 1, 2010. (2007 California Energy Code)
Building permit applications dated after January 4, 2010 will be under the new Energy Code and Energy calculations will need to be performed using EnergyPro 5.0 or PERFORM 2008. The new standards and compliance manuals appendices and compliance forms can be found at www.energy.ca.gov/title24/2008standards/.
Emailing Correction Letters - The Permit Service Center (PSC) now has the ability to e-mail correction letters. To ensure you can benefit from this service, please provide The PSC with your e-mail address when submitting for a permit. We will continue to mail correction letters, when an e-mail address is not available (this process may take between 3 – 5 days). Any questions, please contact any Permit Service Center Staff.
Now Taking Appointments - The PSC is now taking appointments for all permitting. Please call 981-7502 to schedule an appointment to submit for a permit. Appointments are taken first which will reduce the waiting time when applying for a permit.

Permits via Fax - The City of Berkeley Permit Service Center accepts faxed permit applications for minor work with payment by MasterCard or Visa credit card.
What's New at the Permit Service Center...
Owner Builder Declarations - Effective March 1, 2009, State law (Health and Safety Code Section 19825) requires certain forms be filed by owner builders before obtaining a permit. If you are not using a licensed contractor to perform the work, you must fill out and return to the Permit Service Center the Owner Builder Verification & Limitation of Sale Forms before obtaining a permit. If you are using an authorized agent (i.e., a relative, friend or permittin g service company) to obtain the building permit, you must fill out and return to the Permit Service Center the Authorization of Agent Form before obtaining a permit.
24 Hour Inspection Self-Scheduling - For your convenience, you can now easily self-schedule your inspections on our City of Berkeley website.
Some City buildings and services will be closed to the public on holidays and reduced services days.
